Since it's birth in 1998, Eleventh Hour has raised over $50,000 for our charities.

Without you, our guests, this magnificent act of kindness would not be possible. We would like to take this opportunity to give you more information about our charity partnerships. We ask for your continued support so we may provide increasingly larger contributions to these great organizations. Our contributions have helped in providing the financial and volunteer support they need to care for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Shady Oaks Cerebral Palsy Camp

Shady Oaks Cerebral Palsy Camp is a summer camp for people with disabilities located on over 30 acres of land in Homer Glen, Illinois.

The campers are children and adults with cerebral palsy and similar disabilities. Shady Oaks was built specifically around the special needs of these campers. Most campers are the children of members of the Parents Association for Cerebral Palsy Children, Inc., a dedicated group of parents who started the camp in 1947. The Parents Association is a not for profit organization which is dedicated to the welfare of  individuals with Cerebral Palsy and similar disabilities. It is an interracial, nondenominational, charitable organization chartered by the State of Illinois.

Shady Oaks Camp is designed to enrich the quality of life of the campers and provide stimulating life experiences that the campers may not have the opportunity to engage in elsewhere. This 8-week summer camp provides planned recreation, swimming, specially adapted games, arts and crafts, movies, song fests, and parties. All activities are tailored to the capabilities and limitations of each individual camper. Campers benefit from a broad range of interaction with other campers, the staff, and visitors.

In addition to camp activities, campers enjoy field trips which enable them to participate in everyday life experiences. Field trips may include Brookfield or Lincoln Park Zoo, major league baseball games, museums, theaters, and other places of interest within the greater Chicago area.

The operation of Shady Oaks ranges from $180,000 to $200,000 per year, with most of the expenses incurred during the eight week camp period. This cost does not include improvements and  maintenance to buildings, electric, plumbing, and septic fields.

Because the Association is a not for profit, private organization the money to run camp must be raised by the parents. Many fundraisers are conducted throughout the year to help bring in money. These fundraisers include raffles, bingo, tag day, and candy sales. The parents also receive donations from various supporting organizations such as Eleventh Hour.
